Hate Crimes

The Department鈥檚 response and police investigation is necessary to ensure that racism, prejudice and violence will not be tolerated in our community and that perpetrator or such crimes will be prosecuted.

Any criminal act or attempted criminal act intended to cause injury, emotional suffering, or property damage which is or appears to be motivated, all or in part, by race, ethnic background, national origin, religious belief, sex, age, disability, or sexual orientation.

The Department of Public Safety is responsible for collecting and reporting hate motivated crime statistics. Hate Motivated crimes should be reported as indicated in the section, 鈥淗ow to Report a Crime or Other Emergency."
